In Circle the World, Dr. Jane Goodall tells six stories about chimpanzees, giant peace doves, and other wonderful adventures. Dana Lyons sings six songs, including "Circle the World," written for Jane's Giant Peace Dove Campaign where people all over the world fly giant peace dove puppets on United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21st.

The Story Behind “Circle the World”
I had been invited to sing at a Roots and Shoots (Jane's youth activist organization) gathering in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Jane gave a talk to a couple thousand folks at the university.
Soon thereafter Jane worked with some puppeteers and came up with the idea of folks all over the world making giant peace dove puppets with twenty-foot wing spans. They are made of old bed sheets, chicken wire and sticks, materials largely available even in the poorest countries.
"One day, there will be so many people marching with giant peace dove puppets that you'll be able to see a ring of white, circling the Earth, from outer space via satellite."
I sat in the audience and did the math. I had camped on top of the Great Wall of China, one of the few human-made structures visible from space. The Great Wall is about 20 feet wide, about the same as the peace dove puppets. How many puppets would it take to encircle the world? Whoa, that is entirely doable!
"Of course it's possible", she said. "And we're going to do it."
I love the idea that year by year, more and more people around the world will carry peace dove puppets in a celebration of peace. First thousands, then tens of thousands, then hundreds of thousands, then millions. World peace is an idealistic concept. But when you think about it, we have to achieve it. Our survival depends upon it. I believe that while things will most likely get worse for awhile, at some point we will turn. At some point we will evolve into a culture that lives simply, a culture that respects all peoples and creatures of the Earth. It may be a long time from now. Maybe 20 years. Maybe 53 years. Maybe 341 years. But some day our children or our children's children will get their act together and say "enough."

Lyrics:
CIRCLE THE WORLD
by Dana Lyons
Chorus
What if we could circle the world
Flying peace doves beneath the sun
Giant twenty foot wings of fabric
That are handmade by everyone
Once a year we circle the world
Saying ain’t it time to bury the guns
Our time has come and we have begun
To Circle the World
It's a dream and it's a vision
It's a prayer that we may see
When every person, every creature
Will be treated with dignity
When every war will be a memory
We never shall repeat
Our time has come and we have begun
To Circle the World
Chorus
It’s a parade and it’s a party
Giant puppets with many drums
It’s a song with many rhythms
That is sung in many tongues
It’s a giant snake dance
In every country beneath the sun
Our time has come and we have begun
To Circle the World
Chorus
Circle the World
